What do YOU do?
I think I can say with certainty this is a question everyone is asked. Many times over.
When someone asks me what I do for a living, I answer proudly, ‘I work for Wyse Advertising.’ And then the conversation goes as follows:
Interested party: ‘So, are you a writer?’
Me: ‘No.”
Interested party: ‘Designer?’
And this is the moment I ruin their image of the exciting world of advertising …
Me: ‘No, I’m in account service.’
Interested party: ‘You’re an accountant at an ad agency? (Eyes fill with pity, as they turn slowly from me.)
Well, no, I’m not an accountant. I am an account supervisor. There is a difference. Trust me.
Account Service plays a very important role within an agency (let’s pause a moment for creative, media and production to roll their eyes).
Really. We do. I promise.
Account Service manages the relationship between Wyse and our clients, working with the various agency departments to plan and execute a client’s brand initiatives and campaigns, ensuring projects are executed on strategy, on time and within budget.
We’re the first to receive the call about a $20M budget (hint, hint) and the first to hear about a problem (which never happens at Wyse!).
We’re the navigators, fortunetellers, peacemakers (you know those crazy creatives!), problem solvers and therapists.
Everyday I have new challenges, and no two days are ever alike--that’s what I love about what I do!
So the next time you ask, please please please don’t call me an accountant.
Although I do think the accounting department at Wyse is absolutely fantastic, and Terry, Diane and Marie are the most beautiful women I’ve ever met. Especially when they hand me my check.
(Did I mention that part of my job is sucking up?)
